چکیده

Optical frequency combs based on erbium-doped fiber lasers are attractive tools in precision metrology due to their inherent compactness and stability. Here we study a femtosecond Er:fiber comb that passively eliminates the carrier– envelope phase slip by difference frequency generation. Quantum statistics inside the all-fiber soliton oscillator governs its free-running performance. Active stabilization of the repetition rate supports a subhertz optical linewidth and does not necessitate additional intracavity elements. Direct locking to an optical atomic frequency standard enables generation of a 100 MHz microwave signal with a stability of 3.4 mHz maintained over 15 min. ©2015Optical Society

All-passive phase locking of a compact Er:fiber laser system.

A passively phase-locked laser source based on compact femtosecond Er:fiber technology is introduced. The carrier-envelope offset frequency is set to zero via difference frequency generation between a soliton at a wavelength of 2 μm and a dispersive wave at 860 nm generated in the same highly nonlinear fiber. This process results in a broadband output centered at 1.55 μm. Subsequently, the 40 M...

Ultralow phase noise microwave generation with an Er:fiber-based optical frequency divider.

We present an optical frequency divider based on a 200 MHz repetition rate Er:fiber mode-locked laser that, when locked to a stable optical frequency reference, generates microwave signals with absolute phase noise that is equal to or better than cryogenic microwave oscillators. At 1 Hz offset from a 10 GHz carrier, the phase noise is below -100 dBc/Hz, limited by the optical reference. For off...

Femtosecond coherent seeding of a broadband Tm:fiber amplifier by an Er:fiber system.

We generate broadband pulses covering the Yb: and Tm:silica amplification ranges with a passively phase-locked front end based on Er:fiber technology. Full spectral coherence of the octave-spanning output from highly nonlinear germanosilicate bulk fibers is demonstrated. Seeding of a high-power Tm:fiber generates pulses with a clean spectral shape and a bandwidth of 50 nm at a center wavelength...

A Monolithic MQW InP–InGaAsP-Based Optical Comb Generator

We report the first demonstration of a monolithic optical-frequency comb generator. The device is based on multisection quaternary/quaternary eight-quantum-well InP–InGaAsP material in a frequency-modulated (FM) laser design. The modulation is generated using quantum-confined Stark-effect phase-induced refractive index modulation to achieve fast modulation up to 24.4 GHz. The laser was fabricat...

High-power mid-infrared frequency comb source based on a femtosecond Er:fiber oscillator.

We report on a high-power mid-infrared (MIR) frequency comb source based on a femtosecond (fs) Er:fiber oscillator with a stabilized repetition rate of 250 MHz. The MIR frequency comb is produced through difference frequency generation in a periodically poled MgO-doped lithium niobate crystal. The output power is about 120 mW, with a pulse duration of about 80 fs and spectrum coverage from 2.9 ...
